Seasons of Life Threshold Singers

Who We Are

We are a group of compassionate women who sing with open hearts, offering the gift of song to soothe and uplift. We comfort those on the threshold of dying or illness with a healing presence. We sing mostly at St. Joseph Hospital and Briarwood Health Care Center in Denver, Colorado.

We sing tenderly at bedside in groups of 2 to 5. As an a cappella choir, we sing rounds, lullabies, two- or three-part harmony, spirituals, and hymns. We sing old, familiar songs, as well as songs written by Threshold Choir members. Most importantly, we blend as one angelic voice.

We create a peaceful environment while holding the space and supporting those present, responding to each individual situation. We sing songs with messages of comfort and healing. We welcome song requests from patients, family members, and caregivers. We love it when they sing or hum with us.

At times, we also sing for memorial services, spiritual or health gatherings, and volunteer functions.

Rehearsals

We rehearse for an hour before singing at bedside on Tuesday afternoons and then sing to our clients. We start at 3:00 with rehearsal and sing to clients until around 5:30 p.m.

We sing to one another in a reclining chair so as to experience what our clients may be feeling and to feel nurtured ourselves. We practice blending as one voice and nurturing with song. We listen as carefully to each other as we do to our bedside dear ones.

We also participate in semi-annual retreats when members finish their preparation to sing at bedside. Periodically, we also meet for social interactions. There is mutual support of each other, sharing joys, concerns, and our everyday lives.
