Come…Gather

I envision this song being sung anytime singers gather, whether for practice or at a memorial or as a warm up in the hallway before going into travelers’ rooms. My collaborator, Shawn Ellison, who wrote the original lyrics (which I’ve modified for us) envisioned it as a prelude to a church service. It has now become the official prelude at the church where we work in Austin, TX.
I suggest beginning by singing the chorus twice: the first time in unison, and the second time adding both the high and the low harmonies, continuing throughout. The last time through the chorus, you can sing the second chorus, or combine words from either chorus to make a new one. I would love it if you played with it to suit your needs. Have fun with it!
Lyrics
[unison]
Come gather hearts, minds, and voices as one.
Come together, holding each other as one.
[with harmonies]
Come gather hearts, minds, and voices as one.
Come together, holding each other as one.
Lay down your troubles.
Lay down your fears.
Lay down your sorrows.
Lay down your tears.
Come gather hearts, minds, and spirits as one.
Come singing, voices resounding as one.
Lay down your burden.
Know someone cares.
Lay down your worries.
Lift up your prayers.
Come gather hearts, minds, and spirits as one.
Come singing, voices resounding as one.
