Submitter Comments

This song is intended to be sung at memorial services rather than at bedside. Unlike most other songs in the repertoire, it should be sung straight through and not repeated, with all three parts coming in at once.

[2019.07.31—First version (07.26) had an error in the melody line, bars 21-22, now corrected.]

[Note: The vocal sound file has been created with the low harmony mixed only into the left channel and the high harmony mixed only into the right channel (melody is mixed into both channels). If you want to hear one of the harmony parts separately, emphasized against the melody, change the “pan” settings on your playback device to play only the left channel or only the right channel OR, if you have earbuds or headphones, just listen to the left earpiece or right earpiece.]

Lyrics

Look for me in the morning light, when the sun starts to rise.
You will find me waiting.
You are the anchor that binds me to this world.
For as long as you remember me, I will never leave your side.
I will live in your heart forever.

So paint me in the apple of your eye.
I hope that you see me when you look up at the sky.
I will be your comfort when you cry,
And maybe, now and then, I’ll even catch you by surprise.

If someday my image starts to fade,
Or if, one day, you move on from the life that we made,
No need to worry, I will still remain.
I promise, I am never far away.

Just look for me in the morning light, when the sun starts to rise.
You will find me waiting.
You are the anchor that binds me to this world.
No need for goodbyes; a memory never dies.
It lives on forever in earnest eyes.

For, as long as you seek, you shall always see
All that was and would be me.
You are my eternity.
