I wrote these lyrics after the murder of George Floyd, at the beginning of the Black Lives Matter movement, while feeling helpless to get out and protest during the pandemic.  I also was feeling sad about only getting to see my Threshold Choir sisters on Zoom and missing the luscious three-part harmonies that only could be achieved in person. I gave Margaret the basic idea of a melody, and she created improvements in the melody; she also wrote the harmonies and did the arrangement!

Lyrics

We cannot know what lies up before us,
What lies up before us, no we cannot know.
So we will raise our voices in chorus,
Our voices in chorus wherever we go.

Sing for each other tho’ we be apart,
Keeping each other forever in our hearts.
Tho’ we don’t know what lies up before us,
What lies up before us, we’ll sing even so.

Sing for the people all over the earth,
Crying aloud, their voices to be heard.
Tho’ we don’t know what lies up before us,
What lies up before us, we’ll sing even so.
We’ll sing even so.
We’ll sing even so!
