Salt Lake Valley Threshold Singers
Salt Lake Valley Threshold Singers is a group of volunteer singers committed to bringing the comfort of song to those at the thresholds of life. Our songs are offered to bring serenity and comfort to people who are ill, dying, or grieving. We sing tenderly and lovingly in groups of three or four at bedsides for patients in homes, assisted living facilities, hospitals, and skilled nursing facilities throughout the Salt Lake valley in Utah.
We sing songs that are designed to be soothing and reassuring to clients, family, and caregivers alike. Here is an example of our singing. For requests to visit a loved one, please contact us by the information provided below.
Sing With Us
We welcome anyone who shares our mission to explore singing with us. To best serve those living with life-limiting illnesses, we ask that you are willing to convey kindness with your singing voice, respect all spiritual traditions, and desire to contribute to a vibrant and connected group.
The Threshold Choir organization has set these guidelines for singers:
- You are able to carry a tune.
- You are able to hold your part while others sing harmony.
- You are able to sing softly and blend your voice with others.
- You are able to communicate kindness with your voice.
- You are able to self-monitor and accept feedback as we work together to create a beautiful sound for our clients.
Important to our ongoing growth are our weekly rehearsals, where we build our repertoire of songs, reflect on the service we provide, and discuss the sensitivities of working with clients and families at these tender times. We invite all who feel drawn to this work to join us. Since this is not a performance choir, we work on learning to sing quietly together, carefully listening to one another and blending our voices. Singing at bedsides comes in time, when one is ready.
We usually meet at All Saints Episcopal Church in Salt Lake City, Utah, at 4:30 p.m. on Fridays, but please call first to confirm and let us know you plan to attend.
