Friend and former Rainbow Threshold Singer Joan Maxwell asked me to write a melody for the Emily Dickinson verses. The melody and its 19th-century harmonies arose spontaneously from my own New England roots and from what I know of Dickinson’s 19th-century New England life.

Lyrics
We never know how high we are
Till we are called to rise,
And then if we are true to plan,
Our statures touch the skies.
