Garden State Threshold Choir
Who We Are
Coming together in the summer of 2017, the Garden State Threshold Choir is the first Threshold Choir chapter to serve New Jersey. GSTC is a group of women who feel called to use their voices to bring comfort and solace to those at the thresholds of life, as well as their families and caregivers.
We are a choir of presence rather than performance.
What We Offer
We come when invited by family members or by hospice or healthcare representatives.
Our singing is a gift; there is no charge for our service. We sing at bedside in small groups of two to four women, singing songs a cappella in soft harmony. Our songs come from a repertoire developed by Threshold Choir specifically for this work. They are simple and nondenominational, with messages of love and kindness. We honor all spiritual paths and have no religious affiliation.
On the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 4 pm ET, we open a Zoom Song Circle for a half hour of gentle songs for anyone needing a respite. A team of our singers use their individual solo voices, TC audio recordings, and our own collaborative video recordings. To request a Zoom link for the Song Circle, please email us.
Singing With Us
We welcome inquiries for membership. In order to sing at bedside, we ask that you be able to carry a tune, hold your part in harmony, sing softly and blend with others, and accept peer feedback, as we strive to bring the most blended and graceful sound possible to our clients. Above all, we ask you to communicate kindness with your voice.
We rehearse in person on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday evenings at 6:30 pm in Cedar Knolls, NJ, and we meet on Zoom on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays. Most of our bedside visits are on weekday afternoons, and sometimes on weekend afternoons.
